Small Steps, Big Impact on Strengthening Health Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa
The Institute of Capacity Development (ICD), through the Jibu team, recently had the opportunity to host and facilitate a workshop to update the Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) for Health Systems Strengthening eLearning course. Held in Machakos County, Kenya, from 1st to 3rd October 2024, the workshop brought together a diverse group of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from Amref Health Africa, Insupply Health, the Academia as well as private consultants.
The goal of the workshop was to enrich the LMG course content with fresh, engaging content that is tailored to the current needs, circumstances and challenges of the health workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa region. By delivering contextualised and up-to-date content with enhanced interactivity and seamless flow, the desired result was to equip the health workforce with the knowledge and skills they need to bring about the desired positive change, that is, strengthened health systems in Sub-Saharan Africa! The revised LMG course modules span across key subject matters from health systems overview to governance, leadership, management, human resources for health, information systems, financing, service delivery, procurement & supply chain, and monitoring & evaluation.
The experts brought their wealth of knowledge to life through engaging individual assignments, thought-provoking group discussions and lively plenary sessions. This dynamic environment sparked collaboration and creativity, fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants. Moreover, the workshop was not just about work, it was also a space for the participants to network and build lasting connections!
As the workshop drew to a close, it was clear that the updated LMG eLearning course would be a valuable resource for the health workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa, empowering them to strengthen and improve healthcare outcomes for their communities and organizations.
