Partners in Population and Development (PPD) is anintergovernmental initiative created specifically for the purpose of expandingand improving South-to-South collaboration in the fields of reproductivehealth, population, and development. PPD was launched at the 1994 InternationalConference on Population and Development (ICPD), when ten developing countriesfrom Asia, Africa and Latin America formed an intergovernmental alliance tohelp implement the Cairo Program of Action (POA)

PPD has its Secretariat headed by the ExecutiveDirector, which is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has a Regional Office inKampala, Uganda headed by a Regional Director to coordinate South-South programactivities in Africa. Its funded by INGOs, Governments, DevelopmentPartners and Private Foundations
